In our production of "As You Like It", the stage set consists of a large ellipse twelve metres wide and seven metres deep, which is fixed at a height of around six metres and contains curtains on two rails. The set also consists of two large lighting portals.
The set designer wanted to provide this ellipse with a total of four strips of very bright LED light strips in the colours pink and white along the curtains as a lighting accent. The light portals should fulfill the same function as well. The biggest challenge here was to design an LED strip of this size in an elliptical shape.
SCL Light solutions was able to realise this project for us and supply the material to produce the light portals in the same quality.

The arrangement and design of the profiles was calculated and designed by SCL for both ellipses. The profiles were bent and cut into pieces to enable easy delivery and installation. The LED white strips were specially developed to achieve the required output. The protective cover is a special bendable cover that ensures complete coverage of the curved profiles.
Spotlights on, the stage set in focus!
Every production of a theatre play requires different lighting conditions. In a tragedy, for example, a cold light colour, which is used very deliberately and sparingly, enhances the drama and tragedy of the play. Whereas a comedy requires warmer light colours.

World overfilled

The Oberhausen Theatre used twenty-three custom-made linear luminaires from SCL Light solutions for the production "World overfilled", which premiered on 30.09.22 in the main theatre.
The luminaires became part of the stage set on a scaffolding construction on a revolving stage and were used for the visual structuring of the stage set and for classic lighting tasks, in particular the lighting of the actors.
The luminaires and cabling, which were designed in IP67 and also supplied by SCL Light solutions, proved to be robust enough for stage operation despite their very delicate and lightweight design. The light quality, luminous efficacy and light distribution in the opalised covers proved to be very good.

Homogeneous light output was of particular importance. For this reason, luminaire components were customized and fitted with specific flexbands. The entire lighting system was supplied ready to plug in to make installation easy for the stage technicians.
The show must go on, but only in the right light!
Lines of light help the audience to find their way around the stage and also direct their gaze. If linear stage lighting is used, the audience can be offered a completely new experience. The lines of light also provide appropriate ambient lighting.

The legacy

In the production of "The Legacy" at the Residenztheater, the challenge is that the stage set is set up close behind a second portal so that it can be rotated. To enable uniform lighting and the creation of different images, moods and atmospheres at a very short distance, we decided to develop our own RGB warm white-cold white light ramps that are

- fanless
- compact.
The HEQ960 Flexband High Bright 24V, 32V, IP20, cool white LED strips from SCL lighting solutions helped us a lot, offering high brightness and good luminous efficacy at the same time.

The LED strips were modified to achieve the brightest possible light output with low heat development. The LED strips were supplied on a roll.

The LED white strips were specially developed to fulfil the required performance. By encapsulating them in a RAL colour, the profiles become invisible when they are switched off.
